61Road Trip Planning - What Should You Take on Your Trip?
You have decided to take a road trip, and you have figured out where you would like to go. You have your map and your free travel guide you got online. Now comes one of the hard parts of road trip planning - deciding what to bring with you on your vacation. You don't want to pack too much since it isn't comfortable to ride long distances in a car that is jam packed with everything that you own. You need to decide what is important and what isn't.
Since you are going to be dependent on your car to get you where you are going, make sure that it is in good working order, and make sure that you bring along all of the emergency items that you would normally keep in the car. Don't take out the spare tire or the jumper cables in order to fit in more luggage, this could be disastrous if something happened to your car.
Now, if you want to save some money on your road trip, one of the things that you should bring with you is a cooler where you can keep snacks and sandwich fixings so you don't always have to eat in restaurants. You can stay in hotels that offer free breakfasts, and eat dinner in a restaurant if you would like a hot meal.
What exactly you end up deciding to pack depends on what you are going to be doing. During your road trip planning make a note of any requirements for the activities that you are thinking of doing. Do you need to have formal dress for a nice restaurant or the theater? Will you be staying somewhere with a pool so that you might want you swimsuit? That way you can make sure you don't forget anything important. Try to minimize the amount of stuff you are bringing. Remember, you can always wash your clothes at a laundromat during the trip, you don't have to bring a new outfit for each day if you don't have space.
On a side note, if you have kids you probably want to bring along a list of ideas for car games, and any supplies you might need in order to play them. This will help to keep the kids happy. You could also bring a portable DVD player and some videos to keep them occupied
